A legal counsellor is a registered counsellor or therapist who works with people going through a legal matter: a separation, a protection order, a workplace complaint, or the aftermath of a criminal case. Lawyers refer clients to them because the legal problem and the personal one rarely arrive separately. Counselling is regulated province by province, so both the title and the college differ: a registered clinical counsellor in British Columbia, a registered psychotherapist in Ontario.
