Mediators and arbitrators in Canada

Nobody licenses mediators or arbitrators in Canada, so there is no public register for us to check. A Chartered Mediator or Chartered Arbitrator designation is granted by a professional institute rather than by a regulator.

A mediator helps the parties reach their own agreement, while an arbitrator hears the dispute and decides it. Neither role is licensed in Canada, so anybody may use the title. The recognized credentials are the Chartered Mediator and Chartered Arbitrator designations, granted by the ADR Institute of Canada and its provincial affiliates.
